Keep your certifications up to date

All candidates with a PeopleCert Global Best Practice certification can choose to renew within three years of their original certification dates.

How can you renew your certification?
  • Retake the same exam: You can choose to renew your certification by re-taking your original exam before the renewal date. 
  • Take further courses and certifications: You can choose to renew your certification by attending another course and taking an exam within the same product suite before the renewal date. View suite.

Starting from January 2023, which certifications will be issued with a renew-by date?

From January 2023, the Global Best Practice certifications listed above will be issued with a renew-by date three years from the award date. Candidates that choose not to renew their certification within 3 years of the award date will still be included on the Successful Candidates Register (SCR) but a note will be added to their record to indicate that their certification is not aligned with current certification requirements.

As we continue to develop the MyAxelos product portfolio, we may add further certifications to the CPD list. We may also retire qualifications, and eventually their subsequent certifications, as we replace them with updated industry best practice. If we do, we will of course let you know sufficiently in advance, and this will not affect any existing 3-year extension.

Will candidates certified before January 2023 need to renew?

All candidates with relevant Global Best Practice certifications will be given the option to renew, this means that:

  • If you were certified before 30 June 2020: You will have until 1 July 2023 to choose to renew your certification(s), regardless of your original award date.
  • If you were certified after June 2020: You will have the option to renew your certification(s) within 3 years of the original award date.

Your renew-by date can be viewed in your PeopleCert account.

Candidates that choose not to renew their certification within 3 years of the award date (or before 1st July 2023 for those who obtained their certification during or before June 2020) will still be included on the Successful Candidates Register (SCR) but a note will be added to their record to indicate that their certification is not aligned with current certification requirements.

 

Will the 3-year re-certification apply to ITIL® v3 products, e.g. ITIL OSA, ITIL Expert?

Certification renewal requirements will not be applied to ITIL® v3 certifications.

Does a candidate have to retake all of their ITIL® 4 Managing Professional exams to keep their Managing Professional designation?

If you have more than one certificate from the same product suite (eg ITIL 4), they will all share the same renewal date, which is 3 years after the most recent exam taken.

For example, if you took ITIL 4 Foundation on 1st January 2021 and ITIL 4 Specialist: Create, Deliver and Support on 1 January 2022, both of your ITIL 4 certificates will have a renewal date of 1 January 2025.

Do PeopleCert certifications get renewed simply by obtaining any other PeopleCert certification?

To renew a certification, you have options within the same product suite. An ITIL® 4 certification will not be renewed by obtaining a PRINCE2® certification, but could be renewed by taking any other ITIL 4® certification, such as ITIL® 4 Specialist: Create, Deliver and Support.
