Scholarships from PeopleCert for Postgraduate and Doctoral Candidates
from Istanbul, Imvros and Tenedos
For the third consecutive year, PeopleCert held the award ceremony for the “Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew” Award and the Scholarship Programme “Honouring Our Teachers from Constantinople”, granting three scholarships and three honorary distinctions to postgraduate students and doctoral candidates.
This year's ceremony took place in an emotionally charged atmosphere at the Zappeion Gymnasium - Lyceum in Istanbul, on Friday, May 16, 2025. The ceremony was graced by the presence of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, attended by members of the Holy Synod, academics, ambassadors, journalists and other prominent personalities.
Established in honor of the Patriarch, the "Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew", award was presented by His All-Holiness to George Papaliaris, president of SY.R.KI., in recognition of his enduring and altruistic contribution to the preservation and enhancement of the Diaspora community in Istanbul.
The scholarships were offered in memory of the distinguished professors, Stathis Arseniades, Charalabos Christoforides, and Isidoros Papinis, who were exemplary in their consistency and pedagogical dedication.
The Scholars receiving this year's scholarships, amounting to 8,000 euros each, are:
- Katerini Niforou, Doctoral Candidate, School of Medicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
- Natali-Niki Tsakiroglou, Doctoral Candidate, School of Medicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
- Danae Palaka, Doctoral Candidate, Center for Advanced Music Research, Istanbul Technical University
Three more Scholars were recognised with honorary distinctions, receiving a prize of 4,000 euros each:
- Panagiotis Moumtsakis, Doctoral Candidate, Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Oxford
- Giorgos Petropoulos, Postgraduate Student, Department of Philosophy, King’s College London
- Evridiki Pigkou, Doctoral Candidate in Analytical Chemistry, Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul
